![]() In fact the recording feature in any smart TV is only meant for the occasional program to be recorded and not really intended to replace a fully featured DVR device in the same way as the web browser is there for convenience and not for serious web surfing. I wouldn't advise anyone to build up a library of valuable recorded stuff on a drive connected to an 8000 anyway, for two reasons, one being that you can only play back the material on the TV and secondly there used to be a rather nasty bug which caused a random format to wipe the HD content without reason, something which I'm not sure has been exorcised from the OS yet. PCs are a lot more forgiving when it comes to stuff like that, TVs - not so much. Other makes of HD have automatic backup programs installed that also interferes with a less smart device (like a smart TV) so that's another factor. To erase the partition you actually had to download a program from their website and run it on a PC with the memory device connected so it could remove the offending routines. ![]() A company called SanDisk caused huge problems a while back by introducing something called U3 on their storage products which was a small hidden partition that tries to run utilities when inserted into a device.
